Somebody told me about this place recently. I had been to the park before but had no idea they’ve got such a monster mountain bike trail. This is probably some of the hardest riding for a hundred miles or so. Challenging, but with a nice limestone and cedar scent. This is sort of an out-of-the-way park; the locals around Cleburne and the mountain bikers of north Texas are about the only people who ever come here. Maybe the occasional bird watcher or hiker, but this is normally a nice quiet place. There’s a small lake, shady picnic areas, and a lot of campsites. The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed the dam for the lake and several of the park facilities shortly after the land was turned over to the state of Texas in 1934. This is one of the oldest Texas State Parks.
