Southeast and Northeast Rims Professional Review and Guide
"This trail makes a loop along the Northeast, East, and Southeast Rim sections of the South Rim area of the high Chisos Mountains. A high, sheer escarpment characterizes the South Rim, where the scrub woodland of the Chisos drops rapidly down into the Chihuahuan Desert below. The high elevation and steep cliffs along this route offer some of the best views in Texas."
--Laurence Parent, Hiking Big Bend National Park (Falcon Guides).
This trail is flat out, hands down, no question the best hike in the state of Texas. If you live in or near Texas and love hiking, you really must do this trail at least once.
Once you are at the South Rim do not hesitate to continue all the way around the rim and get some different perspectives of the desert and the ridges to the east. There is some elevation lost and gained but it is worth it.
