Big Room Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Big Room Trail, a 1.25- mile self- guided trail, is the best and most popular way to discover the subterranean wonders of Carlsbad Caverns, the fifth largest cave in the United States. The trailhead is at the underground rest area, which is easily reached by taking an elevator down 750 feet from the park visitor center on the surface.
The trailhead can also be accessed by descending the 1.2- mile Natural Entrance Trail. The trail makes a loop around the perimeter of the Big Room. A shortcut partway along the trail allows for an abbreviated 0.75- mile hike for those who don’t want to walk the entire trail. The paved trail is mostly level, with a few short hills, and is well lighted."
