This ride starts on the east side of town at "the little creamery in Brenham," as the Blue Bell Creameries refers to itself. They have been making delicious ice cream here since 1907. You'll see plenty of cows as you ride through their pastureland on the way to historic Independence, now a tiny but attractive spot north of Brenham. Several interesting historic churches, home sites, and cemeteries remain, and the nearby Antique Rose Emporium adds special beauty to an already beautiful area. FM 390 through Independence is specially designated as a state scenic road, and the spring wildflower displays there are stunning, so beware of inattentive drivers. Terrain: gently rolling pastureland. Road: FM roads are two lanes, no shoulder. FM 50 may have heavy traffic, and during the spring wildflower season all area roads have traffic. The county roads are isolated, and one small stretch of the Old Independence Rd. is poorly surfaced.

Should be called the Blue Bell Gamble. We were almost killed on hwy 50. This is no place for cycles no matter the skill level. The this two lane hwy has rural traffic that exceeds 70 miles per hour with no shoulder what so ever. Add to that hills that limit the visibility of approaching cars and you can see that this can be a death trap. This was the worst ride of my life. I am grateful that we made it home alive.
