"Varied topography, numerous springs and seeps, interesting canyons, and an endless sky make the Smoky Creek area popular with experienced backpackers during the cooler months. In spite of the moderate use that some parts of the drainage receive during college spring break, Christmas, and the Thanksgiving holiday, it is easy to find plenty of solitude here most of the year. The primitive nature and remoteness of Smoky Creek provide rewarding challenges to experienced hikers but require excellent map-reading skills, plenty of water, knowledge of desert travel, and good judgment."

This is a really beautiful hike with extremely varied terrain. Be careful when navigating the dry creeks, however, as the trail is sometimes hard to find. Even with GPS in hand, I sometimes lost the trail and had to backtrack. There are also a couple of steep pouroffs that you'll have to scramble down. I would certainly do this hike again!
