Rio Grande Village Nature Trail Professional Reviews and Guides
"The Rio Grande Village Nature Trail is an easy walk that takes the hiker through very diverse ecosystems and shows the different human lifestyles practiced on opposite sides of the Rio Grande. The trail begins with a 150-foot boardwalk that crosses a wetland created by a beaver dam and fed by a warm spring. The abundant springwater allows for plants and animals not normally associated with desert settings. Willows, reeds, insects, and fish make their home in this special ecosystem. The uncommon habitat is also a haven for many species of birds. As you climb the hill leaving the spring area, note the dramatic change in the surrounding environment. Not only does the plant life make an abrupt change, turning to desert scrub and cacti, but even the air becomes drier. At the top of the hill, the loop trail forks.Take the trail to the right."
