The Estufa Canyon/Banta Shut-in hike can be a long, strenuous day hike, but it is better done as an overnight backpacking trip. Water is often available at the shut-in, but is not always reliable. You should ask at the nearby Panther Junction Visitor Center about the status of water sources on the route before beginning the hike. Without clear confirmation of water availability, plan on carrying all your water.

Hot & dry. Take along some water and a camera and head out in the late evening about 2 hours before sunset. The late evening sun brings the colors to life. The trail is well marked and easy enough for most avid hikers. Not a great deal of growth along the way but beautiful in its own way.
