Lost Pines Professional Review and Guide
"Just east of Bastrop, a moderately easy day hike or overnight trip in the Lost Pines of Texas. Special Attractions: Dense pine forest. Permit required for camping."
--Laurence Parent, Hiking Texas (Falcon Guides).
Hiked the trail a few hours after a very strong thunderstorm went through. Trail was well marked, with the exception of a 1.1 mile section at the southern end. Lost count of the time we had to cross the same creek (must have been at least 20 crossings....Lost Pines should be nicknamed Hidden creeks). Some of the crossings were not practical, and we had to find alternate areas to cross the creek(probably a result of the heavy rain). Hilly and muddy at some points, but sandy survaces at most areas of the trail. Diffulty was moderate. Thrill factor was high, as the vegetation was lush. Watch out of the poison Ivy...be sure to cover the legs at least.
