Arbor Hills Nature Preserve Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"Popular with families, scout troops, hikers, and geocachers, this trail winds uphill through woods and blackland prairie culminating in a hilltop view of Plano and its surroundings before looping back to the trailhead.

From the parking lot, head to the large stone pavilion at the entrance, where picnic tables and restrooms are available. There’s a large map of all the park’s trails, both paved and unpaved, on the right wall of the pavilion across from the restrooms and more information about the diverse ecosystems in the park, including riparian wetlands, blackland prairie, and upland forest. On most weekends the park is jammed with families taking to the paved trails with strollers, scooters, bikes, and in-line skates."

"Popular with families, scout troops, hikers, and geocachers, this paved trail winds uphill through woods and Blackland Prairie culminating in a hilltop view of surrounding Plano before looping back to the trailhead. Located in West Plano, the 200-acre park’s 2.7 miles of trails and its late operating hours make it a popular destination for night hikers."

"Popular with young families, this trail winds its way slowly uphill, moving from wetland to prairie to forest before looping back to the beginning. On any sunny weekend, you’ll find the trails bustling with families.

In West Plano, the 200-acre Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is laid out in three sections: Blackland Prairie, Upland Forest, and Riparian Forest. On any given weekend you'll find the parking lot busy. Most visitors-young parents strapping their kids into strollers and your professionals leashing their dogs-are regulars who live in the area, already have their favorite routes in mind, and disappear down the trail within seconds."

"Five minutes from where I live, and then about ten light years to the left of everyday life. This is a delightful place to forget the city grind. You’ll forget you’re still in a tiny corner of the Metromess as soon as you hit the single-track. Nice single-track is all I need to forget how big and nasty it is getting to be around here. That and some good tires. If you’ve got the nerve, feel free to see how well you can follow the trail here as you let the bike find the line.

This trail is squeezed into a couple of corners of a well-planned nature preserve. The city of Plano was wise enough to realize how fast the land around here was being gobbled up by developers, and therefore what an asset saving a few acres for nature could be. This trail is very well thought out, squeezing two miles of fine north Texas single-track into only a few acres of land. It’s all about conservation, children—they aren’t making any more land."

This trail is tight with lots of sharp turns. There are countless tree roots to navigate over and several quick elevation changes. Since it was my first real mountain bike trail, I had a blast.

This trail is well maintained and an easy ride with the best wildlife interaction. The wildlife here don't seem to mind that you and your friends just flew by them. The trail is fast and fun. The description says it all. Great for a refresher and a good view of the lake. I take it several times over and over back to back.
