Life revolves around the Tennessee River in Savannah, where transportation of goods has been part of the community since it was settled in the 1820s. One of the city’s famous residents was Queen Haley, grandmother of author Alex Haley (well known for his book Roots). Queen lived in Savannah from the time she was a young woman until her death in the early 1930s. Her grave is in the Savannah Cemetery. July brings the annual Savannah Bluegrass Festival. From Savannah, go west until you reach Adamsville. On the way you’ll pass through the small community of Crump, which stages a popular flea market each weekend. This eTrail from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of Nashville. Each Day Trip includes destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping.
