Benton McKaye Trail on the Hiwassee River

Polk County, Tennessee

Benton McKaye Trail on the Hiwassee River Professional Review and Guide

"Take a relatively easy hike along the beautiful banks of the wild and scenic Hiwassee River. Head upstream from the Childers Creek trailhead, tightroping riverside woods bordered by the river on one side and rocky protuberances on the other.

Cruise past islands, bluffs, and shoals as the Hiwassee makes a big bend. Paddlers and anglers will be seen in the river during the warm season. Th e hike ends at Big Bend Trailhead, availing an alternate hiker access."
