Mousetail Landing. What a name! No telling what you imagine earned it this name. Here’s the story: Back in the 1800s, there was a tannery here on the Tennessee River. Being a tannery, it had many fresh animal hides on hand, which attracted mice. One day, a fire broke out at the tannery, and suddenly thousands of mice tore out of there. And that’s how the river landing came to be known as Mousetail Landing. But don’t worry, the mice are gone. Now there is instead a great state park with two good but different campgrounds for us to pitch our tents and enjoy the park’s finer things, like swimming, fishing, boating, and backwoods hiking.
