This is the hike for Civil War buffs. The trail goes through major action sites of the Battle of Murfreesboro, fought from December 31, 1862, to January 2, 1863. More than 80,000 troops participated in the battle. Interpretive signs and cannons from the war are placed near the trail. A side trail leads to the Slaughter Pen, where one of the bloodiest engagements of the battle was waged.
