The Slickrock addition is a recent Cherokee National Forest project designed to provide more separation between different users- I.e. hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers. Slickrock represents only one stage of an extensive collaboration between Ocoee Ranger District and local bike clubs. The loop returns along FS 77, a paved road; however, trail construction continues, which may link the singletrack to the end of FS 5050. This trail goes through part of the nearly 300,000 acres in the southern section of Cherokee National Forest, adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
