Suter Falls and Horsepound Falls Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The ultra-rugged valley known as Collins Gulf, part of Savage Gulf State Natural Area, is home to these exhilarating cataracts. You will leave the rim of the Cumberland Plateau, grabbing a view of Collins Gulf before leaving the rim to visit 40-foot Suter Falls, plus a pair of adjacent cataracts encased in a rough canyon. Continue down the widening gulf, a wildflower haven, to reach wide and powerful Horsepound Falls spilling over a ledge and into a sink.
Collins Gulf has a lot to off er: cataracts, sinks, wildflowers, a water-carved canyon and sandstone overlooks, even an easy access campsite. There is plenty to see but the trails are rough, so allow ample time for your hike. Collins Gulf is one of the three canyons that together form a crow’s foot that comprises the heart of Savage Gulf State Natural Area."
