Monteagle, Sewanee, Tracy City, & Beersheba Springs, TN Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The quaint community of Monteagle is situated atop the southern end of the scenic Cumberland Plateau. Monteagle is known mainly for its century-old Monteagle Sunday School Assembly, where families have made their summer homes for generations, and for the treacherous stretch of I–24 that winds up Monteagle Mountain.
The interstate is particularly dangerous during the winter months because of its steep grade. Monteagle sits at the top of the incline, at an elevation of 2,100 feet. Nashvillians like to escape to the area for the cool weather, great hiking at South Cumberland State Recreation Area, and the tranquillity of the Assembly Grounds. Indians named the mountain plateau of Sewanee, which now is a small college town centered around The University of the South, a well-respected school started by the leaders of the Episcopal Church."
