Bald Mountains Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The summits of High Rocks and Big Bald are the highlights of this short traverse over the Bald Mountains. High Rocks is on a short side trail off the A.T. and affords great views of Little Bald, Temple Hill, and No Business Knob. Big Bald offers spectacular 360° views of the Southern Appalachians, including an excellent view of Mount Mitchell only 20 miles distant. Mitchell (elevation 6,684') is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River and lies in the Black Mountains of North Carolina.
Mount LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains can also be seen from Big Bald. To the southwest, between the Black Mountains and the Smoky Mountains, view the Nantahala Mountains; to the northwest, view Coldspring Mountain with its two peaks, Camp Creek Bald and Big Butt; and to the northeast, view the Unaka Mountains."
