A mere 22-mile ride along the Natchez Trace will immerse you in a multilayered history ranging from Indian prehistory to the travels of frontiersmen and Mississippi River boatmen in the early 1800s to an iron-mining industry that thrived up to World War I. The route follows an out-and-back course over gently rolling hills with a 2.5 mile detour onto a section of the original Trace. The Old Trace was used by Post-Riders, who could carry the mail from Nashville, Tenn. to Natchez, Miss. in ten days. Terrain: flat to gently rolling.

This is a beautiful and enjoyable bike ride. Under no circumstances should you believe that it is "easiest." There are hills, you will have to work. It's worth it, but realize that it requires a certain level of physical fitness.

A beautiful ride. The best part was the ride on the old Natchez Trace - no traffic and nearly always down hill! Don't be deceived by the "mere 22 miles and gently rolling hills"! For beginners the "easiest" rating is a bit misleading, there are a few gradual inclines that seem to last a long time! Overall a great ride. FrauB

The entire Natchez Trace is a wonderful bicycle tour. The Tennessee sections of the tour, especially this one, are the most well maintained (read smooth surface), and hence the most enjoyable. The area is rich in early American and Native American history. Do a bit of reading about the Natchez Trace before your trip and impress your buddies with your endless knowledge. Great ride.
