Old Forge Campground Professional Review and Guide
"Old Forge was the site of an iron forge in the early 1900s. Iron was melted and made into tools for use on the logging railroad that extended up to Cold Springs Mountain. Men cut the timber by hand with crosscut saws, then transported the logs via horse or mule before loading them onto trains at the railroad. Talk about hard work! That makes it all the more ironic that this is a recreation site now, because it doesn’t take much effort nowadays to have a good time at this campground, which was revamped exclusively for tent campers."
