The Chimney Tops

The Chimney Tops Professional Review and Guide

"Note: This hike was affected by the Chimney Tops 2 fire of November 2016. Please check nps.gov/grsm for the latest updates.

This busy and steep hike is nothing less than spectacular. Cross chilly mountain streams on a series of footbridges to ascend sharply amid some old trees. Emerge at the Smokies single most recognizable rock formation: the twin spires of the Chimney Tops, which provide a dramatic view of the surrounding landscape.

This hike is good year-round but is crowded during the warm-weather season. Try to go during off-times. In spring, fall, and winter you enjoy the best views. Avoid this hike during summer altogether unless you can hike at dawn or dusk."
