Fern Branch Falls

Fern Branch Falls Professional Review and Guide

"You will find this delicate falls deep in the Porters Creek Valley, known for its wildflower displays. Along the way, the Smoky Mountains trail takes hikers by the Ownby Cemetery, on a side trip to the old Messer Place, and through a preserved hemlock grove before coming to the 60-foot slide of white."

One of my first hikes for 2017 in a place I had never hiked and loved the area. You walk upward in more of a gravel road then finally reach the main trail head....the path is along a creek, you cross what I called “the scary bridge” which has now been fixed and not so scary, then walk through an area that reminds me of the kids movie Feen Gully. It’s beautiful! After several days of rain, the falls are beautiful but only a trickle if there hasn’t been any rain. One of my favorites that I have hikes several times this year and will return to many more times.
