"Civil War buffs will enjoy this hike that leads to a 40-foot-high bluff above the Harpeth River, overlooking Franklin. Stairs and a boardwalk assist in the hike up the steep, heavily wooded hillside to the location of the fort, which was constructed in 1863 by Union soldiers. Signs along the trail provide interesting information about the fort, which no longer exists."

"Civil War buffs will enjoy this hike that leads to a 40-foothigh bluff above the Harpeth River, overlooking Franklin. Stairs and a boardwalk assist in the hike up the steep hillside to the location of the fort. The fort was constructed in 1863 by Union soldiers. Hikers interested in learning about a Union fort built to pro- tect Franklin during the Civil War will appreciate this hike. The fort is gone, but informational signs tell where buildings were located, the placement of guns, and other interesting data. The fort was an earthwork structure, 781 feet long and 346 feet wide, covering nearly twelve acres. The sentry/observation trail on the edge of the bluff is intact, furnishing a view down the hill toward Franklin.
