Strip Mine Falls

Strip Mine Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Despite the less-than-alluring name, you will be surprised at this cataract nestled in the forbidding gorge of North Chickamauga Creek. First, the Cumberland Trail leads you astride deep pools, wild rapids and rugged boulder gardens along North Chickamauga Creek.

Step over Hogskin Branch with its numerous cascades before saddling along a cliffline. Rise to reach an old coal-mining area, now wooded, and Strip Mine Falls. It spills about 20 feet over the gorge rim, then bounds through rocks in a continuous rapids for 130 more feet before slowing."
