Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"Walk from the remains of an 1800s ironworks in New York to a waterfall in Massachusetts. This hike has two branches in opposite directions, with parking more or less at the midpoint between the two destinations. You may want to do just one of these two hikes during your visit, depending on the amount of time you have available. Both are worthwhile hikes, with the Copake Iron Works a little less traveled than the very popular hike to Bash Bish Falls." Read more
"Walk from the remains of an 1800s ironworks in New York to a glorious waterfall in Massachusetts. From its opening in 1845 to its gradual shutdown between 1903 and 1908, Copake Mine Iron Works produced some 4,000 tons of cast iron every year. Oddly enough, even though the mine meant big business in this corner of the Taconic Mountains—with its own railroad stop to transport the iron to industries across the country—very little is known about the business itself.
