The Cold Brook Canyon trail explores the South-Western area of the park, starting at Highway 385 and commencing at the parks Western border. The route partially follows the edge of a controlled fire and meanders through a canyon abounding with praire wildlife. This is an area in constant "battle" between forest and grassland and fire is sometimes used to sway the balance. The trail is quite easy to follow and I found it to be easy/moderate regarding challenge. There is a bit of steep terrain along the way but elevation gain is minimal. Traffic seems light here and I highly recommend this route to experience one of America's few remaining stands of Praire.
