Fossil Exhibit Trail Professional Review and Guide
"A short, barrier-free loop to an exhibit of area fossils."
--Bert & Jane Gildart, Hiking South Dakota's Black Hills Country (Falcon Guides).
Very easy short loop with displays of the various fossils found in the area. This is a great trail for those with an interest in paleontology or geology. The rock formations at this location are very nice. We hit the timing right to get a Range chat about the fossils which was great information.
We did this trail very early in the morning and didn't get the self-guided brochure, which I'm sure would add to the educational aspect of this hike. Still, it was interesting to see all these unusual skulls and what-have-you, which are contained in concrete and glass boxes scattered along the trail. The rock behind the trail is quite interesting in itself, as is the wildlife (we saw rabbits and coyotes). Being there early ensured that we were alone, and kept us from being baked by the sun in this shade-less area.
