A loop hike giving you a chance to examine both prairie and riparian habitats. Few trails in the Black Hills offer the opportunity to view both a pristine prairie and riparian ecosystem. Though the trail is easy, with only a few ascents and descents, some hikers may at times categorize the trail as moderate, but only because of the eight stream crossings, five of which must sometimes be made without the help of logs. Park rangers have placed logs flattened on top at several locations, which serve to facilitate crossings.
