Chattooga River

Chattooga River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This float traverses the most doable section of the wild and scenic Chattooga River, which forms the boundary between Georgia and South Carolina. The protected river corridor offers unspoiled mountain scenery at its finest.

The trip is challenging for the novice paddler, though it’s much tamer than other sections of the Chattooga downstream. That being said, it does have several solid Class II rapids with one Class III rapid, Big Shoals. Be apprised that the takeout from the river at Earls Ford requires a 0.25-mile uphill carry to the parking area."
