Springfield Loop packs a lot of punch in its 3.3 miles. The back side of the loop includes short steeps, technical descents, and difficult creek crossings. You will ride through upland forest, including pignut hickory, short-leaf pine, sourwood, and dogwood. Highlights include a swinging bridge and several log jumps. For a quick warm-up before hitting the loop, ride along the historic Nation Ford Road, past a restored 1785 log cabin, to the Nature Center (0.8 mile), and return. Note: Mountain bikers are not allowed on trails in the Nation Ford Road area except on the gravel road.
