Duck Pond

Duck Pond Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This relatively short paddle is just one example of many paddling opportunities on both Lake Moultrie—where this paddle takes place—and nearby Lake Marion. This particular trip combines cruising the open shores of huge Lake Moultrie with an exploratory mission into some protected back bays, where tall cypresses and ample aquatic vegetation are the backdrop for bountiful wildlife such as alligators and shorebirds. Since you are making a loop, there is no need for a shuttle vehicle. You will encounter boats in the lake, but seeing them is less likely in the back bays—here, the Duck Pond.

The trip leaves big Fred L. Day Landing, then enters a small sheltered cove. Reach the open waters of huge Lake Moultrie, where distant shores can barely be seen over the horizon. Cruise south along an alternately sandy and thickly vegetated shoreline. Cypresses grow out from the water’s edge. You will leave the big water and enter a bay through sandy “gates.”"
