Kings Mountain National Military Park Clarks Creek Trail

Kings Mountain National Military Park: Clarks Creek Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike passes through Kings Mountain National Military Park and Kings Mountain State Park. It starts beside the Kings Mountain Battlefield but soon finds its way to the banks of bubbling Clarks Creek. After caressing the creek’s shoreline, the trail climbs into a mixed hardwood forest and weaves its way to the amenities of Kings Mountain State Park, which include a picnic area and seasonal aquatic opportunities at Lake Crawford.

This is a great hike to enjoy in the hot summer months due to its shaded path and frequent proximity to water. If it is not unbearably hot and you want to add difficulty to the hike, consider completing the adjoining 1.5-mile paved Battlefield Trail at the start or finish of your hike. Whether or not you decide to tackle the Battlefield Trail, be sure to check out the historical displays in the Kings Mountain National Military Park Visitor Center when you register your hike."

"You get two parks in one at Kings Mountain: Kings Mountain National Military Park, which has a museum and visitor center and is home to the actual battlefield site; and the adjacent Kings Mountain State Park, which has two lakes, camping and equestrian facilities, and a living history farm. As the first major patriot victory, the Battle of Kings Mountain, which took place October 7, 1780, was considered a major turning point in the Revolutionary War. Thomas Jefferson called it “the turn of the tide of success,” and while hiking in the park, it’s easy to picture yourself as a Revolutionary soldier, getting ready for the battle." Read more
