Congaree River at Columbia Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The float trip then heads downriver, skittering through rocky shoals. Downtown Columbia stands to your left. The river takes you along surprisingly natural banks, as one side or another of the river is protected as a greenway and/or park. It is not long before you pass the Granby Park launch on the northeast shore. A few more mild riffles speed you atop the sometimes shallow but always wide waterway. Ahead, the rumbling sounds you hear will be the river flowing over the old Granby Lock and Dam.
The dam is but a low-head spillover; however, rock and rebar make floating over it a less than ideal proposition. Instead, enjoy shooting through the old concrete-lined lock. Just beyond, there is a stopping point where you can access the Three Rivers Greenway."
