"Raven Cliff Falls is one of three featured hikes in the 10,000-acre Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, which includes Caesars Head State Park along with Jones Gap State Park. This in-and-out hike follows the Raven Cliff Falls Trail, an old buggy road marked by red blazes that shares the first 1.4 miles with the blue-blazed Gum Gap Trail. Due to the beauty of the waterfall and the popularity of Caesars Head State Park, the trail is heavily traveled on weekends, and the two-lane US 276 normally has a steady stream of traffic on it. Make sure to leash your dog at the parking area and not at the trailhead, since it is necessary to cross the street to start the hike." Read more

This is an easy, 2.2 mile walk (4.4 miles there-and-back) with plenty of unusual and interesting sights along the way. The scenery is stunning, though the tree's leaves are only just budding in late March. There are multiple points along the trail that provide impressive views of the valleys and mountains surrounding Caesars Head State Park. If you go in early spring, make sure to bring a light jacket with you. For the most part, jeans and a tee-shirt are plenty sufficient in the mild South Carolina temperatures of early/late March. However, once you start down the final valley where the fall's over-look is located, the wind blowing down the valley and accross the water is *cold!*

This trail is best when combined with the Matthews Creek Trail and Gum Gap Trails to make an interesting but strenuous backpacking experience - combining great views, creek-side camping, a wire crossing over Matthews Creek and interesting geological formations.
