The Figure Eight combines several short singletrack trails in the Holly Springs Recreation Area. The key word here is variety—to the extreme. You’ll ride easy, then hard; flat, then steep. This ride is anything but consistent. Even the scenery changes drastically, from stark clear-cut to beautiful lakeshore. Begin with a steady 0.5-mile climb on the Mogul Trail. Then the Grinder Trail rewards you with a thrilling 1-mile descent, free of technical difficulties other than some loose rock and debris. Unfortunately, the Al Butt’s Trail, which connected these two trails, was recently destroyed by a clear-cut and you must ride pavement for a short distance. A new trail across from the Holly Springs Recreation Area may be the toughest stretch of singletrack at Issaqueena.
