South Tibwin is a 600-acre tract of managed wetlands used primarily for wildlife viewing. Mountain bike access is allowed only on the designated loop described here. In this part of Francis Marion National Forest you will experience hardwood bottoms, pine uplands, and tidal marshes. The Intracoastal Waterway borders the area to the south. Wildlife blinds on the freshwater ponds allow you to see egrets, hawks, and ducks and if you’re lucky, maybe a river otter or bald eagle. Be aware that alligators also frequent these impoundments. Note: The area is closed periodically for special hunts. Also, call ahead to be sure the roadbed has been mowed recently. Tread: Grassy roadbed.
