This ride travels through the Low Country south of the historic Charleston peninsula. The route hops from island to island past tall palmettos, sprawling live oak canopies, and salt marsh lining the Intracoastal Waterway. In the cool, sea breeze of a spring or fall day, this ride is a pleasurable way to break up an intense tour of Charleston. Water dominates the physical geography of the area. in a single ride, you will cycle from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway, crossing every type of waterway in between. The Folly River, Oak Island Creek, Long Island River, the Stono River, and Church Creek are all crossed by bridge. A stroll through one of the many marinas in Charleston will find yachts and sailboats from cities as far south as Savannah, and points north including Baltimore.
