Hunting Island Loop Professional Review and Guide
"Short sections of singletrack on Hunting Island can be connected to create a loop around the park, incorporating all the major highlights. Enjoy constant views of the water as you ride along an eroding bluff overlooking the lagoon. On the southern tip of the island, a spur trail leads to a 1,100-foot fishing pier, the longest free-standing pier on the East Coast; and Paradise Cafe, where you can stop for a bite to eat. Another spur trail accesses the park’s Marsh Boardwalk Trail.
The trail also passes the visitor center and the lighthouse. Finish with a swim in the ocean at South Beach. This Lowcountry trail is surprisingly narrow and technical with soft sand, roots, and tight turns. Sections of gentle rolling hills add some interesting dips and berms. Tread: 5.2 miles on singletrack, 2.4 miles on pavement, and 0.2 mile on the beach. (Optional beach miles replace most of the pavement at low tide.)"
