A serene paddle around a large freshwater pond between the Chipuxet and Pawcatuck Rivers. Situated at the southern end of the Great Swamp Management Area, the 1,043-acre Worden Pond is the largest freshwater pond in Rhode Island and a perfect place for a long, fairly quiet paddle. On such a large body of water, the wind can create waves and currents, so be prepared for challenging paddling if weather conditions get blustery. The south shore of the pond, where this trip begins, runs close to Wordens Pond Road, and there is development in this area. The north shore is the most serene part of this trip, and growing on its forested shores are white and red oak, sassafras, and red maple.
