Newport Harbor Professional Review and Guide
"A sight-seeing paddle through an opulent harbor to a nearby state park. Sailing and yachting are serious passions in Newport, and this harbor plays host to some of the world’s wealthiest watercraft owners. Paddling past the pristine hulls in a humble kayak is a surreal experience, and it’s a great way to check out the beautiful boats up close. Traffic can get heavy here, especially on summer weekends. Though there’s a 5 MPH speed limit within the harbor, it’s absolutely imperative to be alert at all times in case a larger vessel comes up quickly. Once you leave the main mooring areas of the harbor, you’ll have a largely uninterrupted trip along the shore past several beaches and out to Fort Adams State Park. The harbor is protected by the Fort Adams peninsula and Goat Island, but it can get a bit choppy on windy days."
