South County Bike Path Professional Review and Guide
"The South County Bike Path offers a pleasant ride through a mix of rural and suburban landscapes. Surface: Asphalt. Location: Kingston."
--Cynthia Mascott, Rails To Trails: Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine (The Globe Pequot Press).
This was great. I am sure that you will enjoy it as much as we did.
Great trail - Bring your Cameras... Lots of scenic views and paved al the way. Some parts of this path cross and continue on roads - hazardous for wheelchair riders
Nice, well maintained, but not very senic. Not an extremely easy ride. It has many rolling hills. For the easy-going rider, definately start in South Kingston and ride South.
This is a very well maintained paved bike path through some nice scenic areas. The path is almost all flat with a couple of minor grades in places. It winds through woods, some beautiful swampland with lots of wildlife and several small town locations. Parking at the Kingston Amtrak station is plentiful and leaves you just a few yards from the start of the path. There are restroom facilites at the station which is a plus. Along the route there are a couple of opportunities to stop for refreshment in the town areas that are passed through as well as at an ice cream stand right next to the trail about 2/3 of the way through. At the end of the trail it is easy to extend and peddle on the roads to Naragansett beach which provides many more opportunities for scenery, food and drink. There are plans to extend the trail farther over the next couple of years and when complete it will go all the way to Narragansett. All in all the South County Bike Path is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. More information is here: http://www.dot.state.ri.us/bikeri/bikepathfuture.htm
