Explore much of the island’s natural beauty on this trail system. Block Island is only 3 miles wide and 7 miles long, but it boasts about 30 miles of hiking trails, plus 17 miles of pristine beaches that are also great for walking. Most of the island’s trails are owned and maintained by The Nature Conservancy, the Block Island Land Trust, and the Block Island Conservancy. The Greenway, inspired by England’s Greenway system of trails, is a growing enterprise that now includes more than 12 miles of trails covering much of the southern half of the island. The trails, which range from wide and flat swaths of mowed grass to rocky slopes, pass through many of Block Island’s most revered natural areas: Rodman’s Hollow, the Enchanted Forest, Nathan Mott Park, and Turnip Farm.
