This hike follows several of the park trails along the south perimeter of the park before visiting the north overlook and returning to the car. Located on a ridgetop just a few miles northeast of York, the 750-acre Rocky Ridge County Park is a popular location for local bird-watchers. During the spring, it is visited by a variety of warblers, including black and white warblers, ovenbirds, chestnut-sided warblers, redstarts, blue warblers, yellow throats, and green warblers. In both the fall and spring, the two park overlooks provide excellent vantage points from which to view the seasonal hawk migrations.

This park exceeded all expectations. County parks usually suggest a barely maintained trail and a few picnic tables suitable for a convenient quick stop. Rocky Ridge park is really a much bigger deal. This is some impressive beautiful ground to walk over. There are tons of picnic facilities and a playground and biking paths but the actual dirt trail hiking is impressive on its own. Also, unlike some trail guides that bring little of value except telling you how many miles a particular loop is, this guide is very helpful at choosing a series of trails that make an interesting and varied loop through the park. I think a lot of Rocky Ridge visitors without a guide like this probably walk in and out along the frontage trails that parallel the road but there are far more rewarding waterfalls and creek side trails to be explored and this guide makes a great loop through some of them.
