Hickory Run State Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This is a large, industrial- scale campground that’s too often frequented by black bears. The result is that all campers are required to store food and scented items, including toothpaste, deodorant, and dish soap, in their vehicle any time they leave the site, day or night, for even a short period of time.
There’s a lot to do here, but you want to be sure to check out the Boulder Field, a National Natural Landmark. The 400 × 1,800-foot field of stone, up to 12 feet deep, is remarkable for its nearly complete lack of vegetation. This moonscape has sandstone boulders as big as 26 feet long.
When you’re done with the boulder field, explore some of what else this park has to offer, including 44 miles of hiking trails, stream fishing for trout, disc golf, and hunting for big and small game."
