There is a lot of oil history in these parts, and this ride highlights, yet another abandoned oil field and ghost town along its course. But let’s start with the climb up the beautiful Thundershower Run on perfect grade. This beautifully wooded hollow is home to an array of wildlife, so animals are seen crossing the fire road quite often. The descent is quite wild and well worth the climb. Highlights: remains of an old oil and gas well, ghost town, hidden secret descent. Tread: the first 3 miles are on nice hardpack doubletrack and fire road; the next 4 miles are on grass covered cross-country ski trails; and the remaining 5 miles are fire road and sweet doubletrack.

I rate this trail as a two star. I am not a real big fan of loops. I hiked this trail last winter on snowshoes. I grew up in the town of westline so this was a old haunt for me. There is also a whole network of ski trails that you can ski or snow shoe on. Have fun and stop by the westline inn for a hot meal.
