Ryerson Station State Park

Ryerson Station State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Ryerson is a pleasant hike in a small park. If you’re looking to get away from the crowds and want to spend a day exploring nature and soaking up local history, this is the hike for you. The hike consists of a series of short climbs up extremely steep hollows.

A 300-year-old wolf tree greets you on your first ascent to an overlook 400 feet above the park. Follow a mowed pathway alongside a lake inlet and into a meadow, where the vegetation is more than 6 feet high. Scan the inlet for the great blue heron, explore a bluebird box trail, and visit an old family cemetery."

"This is a pleasant hike through a park that never gets too crowded. It’s tucked in the hills of Greene County in extreme southwestern Pennsylvania, near the West Virginia border. The park is definitely worth the trip, however. Sights you’ll see include an old cemetery that, despite being hidden in the woods, is well maintained; some ancient trees; and lots of wildlife. Portions of this hike run through areas open to hunting. A small population of bears now lives here year-round, so if you keep your eyes open, you just might get a glimpse of the county’s newest wildlife resident." Read more
