"Odds are you’ll never experience anything like this ever again. I mean, c’mon. How many hikes through the woods lead to a 10,000-pound, 14-foot-tall, sixteen-tone set of chimes? You won’t see them right away. Initially it’s Lacawac’s natural beauty that will catch your eye. You’ll experience it by walking parts of several trails to make this loop. Upon leaving the visitor center, for example, you’ll swing around Heron Pond on Big Lake Trail. Pay special attention as you do. At one location, you’ll notice an upright pole—it looks like a telephone pole—on the edge of the lake. There’s a flat platform on the top. In most years there’s a large nest there, home to a pair of breeding ospreys." Read more
