Tom’s Run

Tom’s Run Professional Review and Guide

"This easy hike leads you through a 120-acre parcel of old-growth forest—giant hemlocks and white pines—to an old railroad logging grade that parallels the white- capped waters of Tom’s Run. The west branch of Tionesta Creek snakes its way down the slope and joinsTom’s Run at the point where you begin your final ascent. Along the way you’ll see sandstone boulders the size of small houses perched above. Let the rushing waters of the streams and the hemlock-scented breeze carry you away from the cares of the outside world.

Hearts Content Recreation Area is a hiker’s mecca. Aside from having great hikes like Tom’s Run, the area is less than 0.5 mile from the trailhead for the popular Hickory Creek Wilderness Trail and affords connections with the more epic Tanbark and North Country Trails. The recreation area also offers a 1.0-mile interpretive trail as well. You’ll share parking with hikers using other trails, but don’t worry; there’s ample room."
