Located almost entirely within the Allegheny National Forest, the Kinzua Cruise is a picturesque tour of the Allegheny Reservoir and surrounding woodlands. Following the popular Longhouse Scenic Byway driving tour, the cruise climbs out of the lakebed for a tough 2.5-mile warm-up. Plan a visit to the Old Powerhouse and learn how oil wells from miles around were powered from this one central building. Enjoy a long, gradual descent back to the banks of this unspoiled reservoir. Follow the roller-coaster Forest Road as you wind your way along the reservoir’s rugged western shore. Enjoy the region’s panoramic splendor from one of several overlooks. Complete your bike outing to Kinzua territory with a stop at Docksiders Cafe, where you can enjoy a celebratory dinner overlooking the reservoir.

My son and I had a great time on this ride. It is really scenic and has beautiful views throughout. Having said that, however is it very difficult. The trail guide states that the ride starts with a tough 2.5 mile climb. Actually the first 8 miles is all up hill, and a really really tough way to start a ride. The next 15 miles or so are effortless, but then the last 7 miles is a series of rolling hills that go higher and higher. When we were done, we were both exhausted and proud of the accomplishment. This ride is definitely not for beginners or casual riders, but well worth it for those who don't mind a challenge!
