The Hickory ramble and cruise offer an outstanding tour of Washington County’s small villages and bucolic countryside. Starting in Cecil Park, both routes roll through Venice, Southview, and Hickory before a decision must be made regarding the ride’s length. The cruise adds only 7 miles to the ramble route but includes several challenging hills. Both routes join and then offer some of the gentlest cycling in the county. One long but gradual hill sets cyclists up for an easy sprint to the finish. Consider a visit in early October, and take in Hickory’s popular Apple Festival, offering America’s favorite fruit in every imaginable form.
