Pennsylvania Lumber Museum

Pennsylvania Lumber Museum Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Things can always be worse, right? There’s a fair chance you’ll encounter some mosquitoes when hiking the Sustainable Forestry Trail at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum. Portions of it follow and even cross a small stream. Those low, wet spots draw bugs. It’s nothing out of the ordinary, nothing that any regular use of insect repellent can’t handle.

So why mention it? It’s just a reminder of how well off we have things today, relatively speaking. During the lumber boom of the late 1800s and early 1900s—when men cutting trees for a nation still largely dependent on wood worked—conditions were often primitive. Very primitive."
